UN Chief Antonio Guterres Urges Action to Prevent Climate Change Disaster

UN chief Antonio Guterres said today that the destruction of the climate had hit the planet on a weekly basis and warned that emergency measures had to be taken to avoid a catastrophe.
Speaking at a two-day climate change summit in Abu Dhabi, Guterres said that the break in the climate is now happening. He said he was progressing even faster than predicted by world’s top scientists.
The climate summit in Abu Dhabi is being held to prepare for the New York Climate Change Summit in September.
The UN chief has expressed hope that the Paris Agreement will reduce harmful emissions and reduce global warming.
According to the Paris Agreement, the world must maintain a temperature below 2 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.
Last year’s Historical Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said that a safer 1.5-degree hat would increase the rate of greenhouse gas emission reductions by heating the planet through a sudden reduction in the use of fossil fuels.
By 2030, it is estimated that $ 300 billion a year will be needed to help countries deal with climate-related disasters.
