Token system in paddy procurement: agitators stir in Odisha farmers

Sambalpur: The farmers of Sambalpur and Bargarh, who were agitating over the token system in paddy procurement, stopped their stir on Thursday.
The agitators ended the strike after a meeting of the Labor Minister Sushant Singh and BJD MLA Rohit Pujari with the organization in Sambalpur later this afternoon.
Soon after the meeting, Sambalpur’s farmer leader, Ashok Pradhan informed the media persons that the state government had agreed to get paddy from farmers without tokens. Apart from this, the government also believes that there will be no time limit for procurement of paddy from farmers in Hirakud region.
Reportedly, Bargarh farmer leader, Birendra Kar, also informed that the agitation has been withdrawn after getting assurance from minister Sushant Singh.
It may be mentioned here that the farmers resorted to agitation after Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare minister Ranendra Pratap Swain on Wednesday said that the online token system in paddy procurement will continue.
