The government of Odisha signs a pact for sustainable urban development

Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha signed a memorandum on technical cooperation with GIZ (German Development Agency) on implementing sustainable urban development on Monday – Smart City, Climate Smart Cities and Adoption for Climate Change in Cities.
The note on technical cooperation was provided by Prem Kumar Jha, Special Representative for Housing and Urban Development, Surath Chandra Mallick, additional Urban Development Officer in Bhubaneswar, Saroj Kumar Swain, General Manager of Smart City Limited in Bhubaneswar, and Tanja Feldmann, Project Director for Sustainable City and industrial projects, signed Development Cluster, GIZ India in the presence of H & UD minister Pratap Jena.
The above projects aim to improve the process of planning and implementing sustainable and integrated urban development solutions, to develop programs and strategies for climate-resilient turbans, and to develop ICT-based solutions for simple governance.
Projects will be developed and concepts for sustainable urban development in terms of providing basic urban services and housing in three selected smart cities, eg. B. Bhubaneswar (Odisha) apply. Kochi (Kerala) and Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu).
The German contribution for all three projects together amounts to EUR 16.4 million (approximately INR 127 million). The projects are expected to run until December 2021.
As part of Indo-German Development Cooperation, JAAGA ??and BASUDHA will be supported in December 2019 to build capacity for various stakeholders. One of the projects also aims to develop an ICT-based tool to adapt to the urban flood scenario in Bhubaneswar by January 2020. All of the above projects are being implemented by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited.
“The implementation of these projects will greatly benefit the Smart City when it comes to developing urban poorhouses, a basic urban infrastructure and an action plan to improve climate resilience, focusing on urban flooding, cyclone resistance solutions and reducing vehicle fouling,” said Jena.
