“Her loss is irrevocable, and the void she has left can never be filled. It is a huge loss for the party and the nation,” Mr Nadda said.
The body was later transported to her residence in Delhi.
Mr Nadda told reporters that the body would be held at the party headquarters from 12pm to 3pm and people would pay tribute today after which it would be taken to the crematorium in Lodhi for the last rites.
Ravi Shankar Prasad said it was a personal loss for him.
“We used to refer to her as ‘didi’ and the respect he commanded was phenomenal. It was good this morning, and then all of a sudden we got this news. It’s a painful loss for me and the nation,” he told reporters.
BJP senior leader Shahnawaz Hussain also mourned the loss, saying that Swaraj had guided him in his career and that “she was a leader loved by everyone, from the ruling to the opposition parties.”
