Rugby India Men’s Team Announced for Asian Rugby Championship (Div-3)

Bhubaneswar: Rugby India today announced the 26-man Indian team’s Men’s Rugby team to represent India in the Asian Rugby Championship (Div -3) in Jakarta, Indonesia from June 24 to June 30.
The team trained and prepared for the Indian National Training Camp Championship held in Bhubaneswar from 10 to 22 June. Players who entered the Indian National Training Camp were selected during the All India Division 1 and Division 2 tournament held in Mumbai and Ludhiana. In addition, a national training camp was held in March in Sonipat, in Haryana. Camps were supported by Rugby India, Department of Sports and Youth Services, Odisha and KIIT.
This championship is one of the qualifying rounds for the 2023 World Rugby Championship that will be held in France. The team will be led by Captain Vikas Khatri and teams from China and Indonesia. The winner of this tournament will be promoted in Asia Rugby Championship 2, next year. Continuing his best wishes for the upcoming championship, Secretary of the Sports and Youth Committee, Odisha Kev Dev, said: “I congratulate the players on their national team and want them the best for the championship. Popularity for rugby is also growing fast and our constant endeavors to promote sports and provide the best of infrastructure, training ground and preparation camps for players. A team led by professional trainers went through specialized training here in Bhubaneswar and were well prepared for their tournament. “
Speaking about the composition of the team, head coach Hendrik Naas Botha said: “I am proud of our players. In the last few days in the preparatory camp, intense strength training and conditioning have been underway and have shown great passion and commitment to improve their skills and this tournament could be an excellent platform for their presentation. “
