Row of seats: Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher grilled

Bolangir: The district police arrested Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher today in connection with the incident that an engineer from the Public Works Department (PWD) was forced to perform sit-ups on allegedly inferior road works.
While the lawmaker was first taken to an unknown location in Bolangir early in the morning to ask questions, he was later taken to the Patnagarh Police Station.
According to recent reports, Meher is undergoing a medical examination at Patnagarh Police Station. Among other officials, the Patnagarh police, SP Siba Subramaniyam, are present at the police station.
Sources said lawmakers will appear here today in front of the ADJ court today.
Policemen reportedly picked Meher and his staff at a hotel in Nuapada.
In particular, a video in which Meher publicly punished the PWD junior engineer Jaswant Sabar for a supposedly inferior work in the Belpada section of the Balangir district, became viral in the social media.
Patnagarh police have filed a case against the MLA based on an FIR filed by the government official’s wife. The case was registered pursuant to Sections 341, 363, 294, 323, 353 and 355 IPC and Section 3 SC / ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Although the newly elected MLA apologized one day after the incident, a case was filed against him on the basis of a complaint.
The District Tribal Welfare Association, which called for action against the legislature, threatened to arrest the Odisha assembly on June 26.
