Raghuram Rajan is running for the post of IMF chief

London: Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan is one of the leading candidates for the post of Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The business of keeping British monetary policy and maintaining its financial stability was rarely more political, and Rajan is the only outsider among the top candidates for the replacement of Mark Carney, according to bookmakers and economists following the 325-year-old institution.
According to sources, the role of the IMF remained vacant after the current MD Christine Lagarde announced her resignation last week after she was appointed European Council president by the European Council. Her resignation takes effect on September 12th.
Ryan, currently a professor at the University of Chicago, often referred to the British media as a possible next governor of the Bank of England (BoE) whose selection process is currently underway.
