Persons serving life imprisonment acquitted by Orissa HC

Cuttack : Imagine the trauma of the man and his family members who had been sentenced to jail for more than two decades without any crime? An incident has come to light from Kantapada area of ??Ganjam district where a person has been acquitted by the Orissa High Court when he was sentenced to 20 years in prison in a murder case.
According to sources, the body of Dhobani Khatua, a woman from Kantapada village, was recovered from a pond on October 25, 1997, missing her gold jewelery. During the investigation, the police arrested Sadhu Pradhan on November 5, 1997, for the murder of the woman.
Later during the trial, even though the Berhampur Second Class Additional District Judge court dropped the charges of robbery on Pradhan, he held him responsible for Dhobani’s death and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
However, dismissing the verdict of the second class Additional District Judge court of Barhampur, the court said that during the trial, the judgment was pronounced on the basis of witness of a child and asked for the immediate release of Pradhan.
In particular, Pradhan moved the Orissa High Court against the decision of the lower court.
