Orissa HC accepts Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda against life mandate

Berhampur: On Friday, the High Court in Orissa accepted the petition of High Representative Maoist Sabyasaki Panda on a life sentence sent to him by the first-instance court on May 18th.
An additional District Judge (ADJ) 1, Sanjay Kumar Sahu, sentenced him to life imprisonment for “waging war against the nation”. Responding to the verdict, the Maoist leader moved HC on July 17th.
The judge also imposed a fine in the amount of 10,000 Rupees under Article 121 (war against the state) of the IPC, two years RI and a fine of 5,000 Rupees under Article 25 (1-B) (a) of the Law on Weapons and another five years under Article 27 (1) of the same act.
Sabyasachi Panda alias Sunil alias Sarat founded the party of Odish Maobadi in 2012 after being thrown out of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI (M)).
Graduated in mathematics, Panda joined the CPI (M) in the late 1990s and played an active role in prohibited equipment to become Secretary of the Odisha State Organizational Committee of the Maoists.
