Odisha government loosens standards for the appointment of the prosecutor

Bhubaneswar: The government of Odisha relaxed on Saturday the minimum experience standards for the appointment of prosecutors by two years.
Now, the additional prosecutor needs three years instead of five years of professional experience to qualify for appointment as a prosecutor.
According to sources, the state government has decided to appoint prosecutors in some districts by promoting existing additional prosecutors. However, according to Rule 4.3 of the Odisha State Prosecution Service Rules, 1997, 75% of public prosecutors’ vacancies have been filled. The cadre will be staffed by promotion from the rank of additional public prosecutor, who will serve five years of uninterrupted service.
Since no official of the cadres of the additional prosecutors has the minimum experience of five years, the Government has relaxed the required experience by two years, thereby reducing the need for five years of experience to three years by invoking the Article 22 provision.
Relaxation is a unique relaxation and has no priority for any purpose. The date of entry into force for such relaxation is 1 January 2019, the statement said.
