No professor at CUO: Koraput MP seeks intervention from the Center

Bhubaneswar: Koraput MP Saptagiri Ulaka today dismissed the letter to the Minister for Human Rights of the Union because of a serious lack of teaching staff at the Central University of Orissa in the Koraput district.
“Even after ten years of foundation, the Central University of Orissa faces a serious lack of teaching staff,” Ulaka wrote in a letter addressed to the Minister of Human Resources Development Union Ramesh Pokhriyal.
“Central University of Orissa is the only university in India where there is no one professor,” Ulaka said.
“In relation to 154 sanctioned teaching staff, including professors, associate professors and assistants, the university has only one associate professor and 16 assistants for 14 departments,” the letter said.
MP Koraput also informed the Union’s Human Resources Minister that even though the university has enough teaching staff, the authorities closed their eyes on this issue.
Pointing out the acute shortage of faculties at the university, Ulaka urged the EU government to intervene on this issue in order to improve higher education in a district dominated by a tribal community such as Corapute.
It is important to note that the Central University of Orissa is one of the 15 new central universities founded by Parliament under the Law on Central Universities, 2009.
