New Delhi: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The much-awaited meeting of Odisha Chief Minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi began at 10:30 am and continued for half-an-hour.
Interacting with the media after the meet, Patnaik said, “I have just met the Prime Minister. I congratulated him on his electoral victory. I also requested him for special category status for Odisha. As you all know, we have been hit by recent Cyclone FANI which has done a great deal of damage. I asked for Rs 5000 crore and 5 lakh pucca houses for the affected people.”
“I have also asked for the revision of coal royalty which hasn’t been done for a number of years. That will give us a lot of revenue,” he added.
He will also meet Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and other ministers in the national capital.
Several crucial demands including special category state status for Odisha, revision of mining royalty and financial assistance to take up restoration work in the aftermath of Cyclone Fani were raised by the Chief Minister during the meeting, sources said.
The Chief Minister, during his week-long stay in the national Capital, will also attend the 5th meeting of the Governing Council of the NITI Aayog on June 15 and is scheduled to return to Bhubaneswar the same evening.
