Naveen calls PM Modi to discuss coronavirus situation, Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday held a discussion with PM Narendra Modi over telephone.
As per available reports, a conversation regarding the coronavirus situation was held. Besides, Patnaik also discussed about the upcoming Rath Yatra and the uncertainty it is under.
As uncertainty continues to prevail over the annual Rath Yatra in Puri in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, a meeting among the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee will be held today.
Meanwhile, a firm decision regarding the conduct of the grand festival will be made by tonight.
There is a fear in Odisha and among devotees of Lord Jagannath that the famous Rath Yatra (chariot festival) in Puri may not be be held this year as the 452-year-old tradition might need be cancelled amidst the continuing coronavirus menace.
With social distancing being the major tool to keep the spread of COVID-19 at bay, there is a palpable concern among millions and millions of devotees that if there are still restrictions against large gatherings in late June.
Rath Yatra, the annual sojourn of the Holy Trinity- Lord Balabhadra, Mahaprabhu Jagannath and Devi Subhadra- is scheduled to begin from June 23 this year. However, with the extension of the lockdown, uncertainty is looming large on the festival which sees congregation of lakhs of devotees. As lockdown has been enforced across the country to stop the spread of COVID19, darshan of deities at Jagannath temple has also been suspended.
