Maoists Again Cut-Off Essar Pipeline In Chitrakonda

Malkangiri: Maoists have again cut off the pipeline of Essar Company near Dighajanbai village under Ralegada panchayat of Chitrakonda block today.
Reportedly, the red rebels have destroyed the pipeline as it was near the Odisha-Andhra border.
However, this is not the first such incident. The red rebels had damaged the pipeline for more than ten times since its commencement.
Earlier on January 21, the red-rebels had allegedly snapped the pipeline of Essar, as a result, iron ore passing through the line pervaded over the farmland thereby damaging the crop.It is suspected that the insurgents cut the pipelines to mark their presence in the area. On the other hand, it is also suspected that some locals are doing such things under the garb of Maoists.
The Maoist had earlier released a letter claiming that it was not their action and further demanded that the Company should pay compensation the farmers affected in the incident.
The pipeline was constructed by Essar Steel to transport iron ore from the Baladila iron ore mines to its pelletisation plant in Visakhapatnam. The 67-km pipeline passes through the states of Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. It is estimated that it ferries about 20,000 tonnes of iron ore in a slurry form on a daily basis to the 8 million-tonne plant.
