Lightning Strikes in Odisha: Six killed, 1 Hurt

Bhubaneswar: As many as six persons were killed and one injured in lightning strikes at separate places in Odisha. While three youths died in Mayurbhanj, two women from Keonjhar’s Jhumpura, and one from Balasore district were killed after being struck by lighting.
As per reports, three youths hailing from Badapathara village under Khunta Police limits in Mayurbhanj district who had gone for fishing to a water body this afternoon died after being struck by a thunderbolt. The deceased were identified as Jaminakanta Mahanta (22), Dibyashankra Mahanta (26), and Koushish Mahanta (19).
Sources said the trio had gone to a pond near the village to catch fish at around 11 am when thunderstorm and lightning lashed the area. The youths fell unconscious on the spot after a bolt struck them.
On being informed, fire department personnel reached the spot and rushed the youths to Khunta Community Health Centre (CHC). However, the doctor declared them ‘brought dead’.
Keonjhar’s Jhumpura, two women from died while another was critically injured and a person from Balasore Sadar area were killed in lightning strikes today.
