Keonjhar elephant killed: Private bus seized, driver stabbed by barbil

Keonjhar: The Forest Department has arrested the driver of a private bus from Barbeel town on Thursday afternoon in the tragic death of three elephants on NH-20 at Ballyjodi under Ghatgan forest range in Konjhar district late on Wednesday.
Keonjhar Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Santosh Joshi told media persons that the death of three elephants occurred after hitting the private bus rab airbat from Barbel in Cuttack.
He said that during the investigation of CCTV, it was found that the high speed bus hit the diggers and then ran towards Barbeel. Subsequently, the bus was seized and the driver arrested today.
The DFO said that a herd of 10 elephants was crossing the National Highway at Balijodi late at night when a private bus hit them, killing a female elephant and calf on the spot.
He said that another female elephant, who suffered serious injuries, later died during treatment by the veterinary team of Anandpur Animal Husbandry.
The DFO further stated that the driver of the private bus lost control of the vehicle after killing three elephants and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. As a result, the truck slid off the road.
