INX Media case: Chidambaram approaches Delhi HC for bail

New Delhi: Former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday moved the Delhi High Court seeking bail in the INX Media case.
In his bail plea, Chidambaram has contested his judicial custody and termed his arrest as “illegal”. He has sought bail on the grounds that no other accused in the INX Media case have been arrested.
Further, Chidambaram in his bail plea said that he had already been interrogated and hence there was no justification in arresting him. Chidambaram challenged the lower court’s order of 5 September and sent him to 14 days judicial custody till 19 September.
The 73-year-old Congress leader was arrested by the CBI on 21 August.
The CBI lodged an FIR against him in May 2017 for alleged irregularities in the approval of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board granted to INX Media Group to acquire Chidambaram’s foreign minister for Rs 305 crore during 2007 as finance minister.
Later, the Enforcement Directorate in 2017 registered a case of money laundering in this regard.
