International Senior Citizen’s Day was celebrated in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneshwar: On the eve of International Senior Citizen’s Day 2019, a state-level function was organized by the Department of Social Security and Empowerment (Persons with Disabilities), SSDD, Government of Odisha at Utkal Mandap here today, to make the senior citizens of the society friendly. .
Chief Guest Ashok Chandra Panda, Honorable Minister, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Public Enterprises and Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Odisha inaugurated the great event.
Among others Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Odisha, Sudhanshu Sekhar Sarangi, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Twin City, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, Ananta Narayan Jena, Hon’ble MLA, Bhubaneswar Central and Smt. Bratati Harichandan, Director, Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Odisha were also present during this event. During the felicitation ceremony at Utkal Mandap, Katak Baristha Nagarika Mahasabha, Cuttack was felicitated as Best Institution for providing services to senior Citizens and Awareness Generation. Narasingh Prasad Guru from Bolangir was felicitated for Life time achievements in (Humanities) in the field of Art/Literature/Culture/Dance/Music/Cinema/Sculpture/ Photograph etc. Golakanath Behera, Rayagada was felicitated for his Life Time achievements in the field of aging i.e care/protection/health care/social work/community development/medicine. Debananda Patra from Phulbani was felicitated for his Life time achievement in sports and adventure and Nagendra Kumar Mishra from Khordha was felicitated Best Individual effort in services to the aged.
At the outset of the day for senior citizens, a Yoga camp was organised at IG Park at 7 AM to make our senior citizens stay fit always where huge number of footfall was witnessed. Renowned Ollywood actor Sabyasachi Mishra moderated this yoga camp with many other Ollywood actor and actress.
Followed by the Yoga camp, an awareness walkathon was also organised for creating awareness among the society about the safety and security of senior citizens. Eventually, cultural programmes were staged by renowned artists from Odisha at Utkal Mandap.
