International Day celebrated against drug abuse and illegal trade in the city

Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Social Security and Empowerment of People with Disabilities (SSEPD) organized a sensitization workshop to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at The New Marrion Hotel in Bhubaneswar.
The one-day workshop was opened by Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister, SSEPD, Niten Chandra, IAS, Secretary-General, SSEPD, Sushil Kumar Lohani, IAS, Commissioner with Secretary, Excise Department, and Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, IPS, additional DG of Police, CID, CB, Odisha Cuttack.
The dignitaries released “Drug and Substance Disruptions: A Resource Compendium and Roadmap for Effective Government Services.”
Odisha has a total of 39 Integrated Dependent Rehabilitation Centers (IRCA) in 29 districts. These centers are operated by the Regional Resource Training Center (RRTC), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. RRTC is working to build capacity of IRCAs and awareness-raising programs to reduce drug and drug abuse.
In total, 200 participants from NGOs, colleges, universities, RRTCs and IRCAs participated in the workshop. At two technical sessions, panelists discussed the medical and clinical perspectives and community-based intervention to reduce drug and substance abuse. A total of 39 IRCA presented their activities and achievements in the field of drug addiction.
The following institutions and individuals were congratulated by the Department for their outstanding contribution in the field of drug addiction and drug abuse.
