Former Police Chiefs Write To CM, Hail Odisha Police Rank & File

Bhubaneswar: In an unprecedented show of solidarity for the rank and file of Odisha Police seven former Police Chiefs of Odisha have written a letter to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to record their appreciation of the work done by the State Police.
“The feedback from across the state and from various sections of society is heartwarming. Never before have we seen such outpouring of trust and affection for the police. You should indeed be proud of your police force”, they write.
The signatories to the letter include eminent officers who retired as DGP Odisha like Sarat Chandra Misra, Amiya Bhushan Tripathy, Nimai Charan Padhi, Bipin Bihari Mishra, Suchit Das, Gopala Chandra Nanda and Manmohan Praharaj. Praising Naveen Patnaik for his ‘far-sighted’ leadership, ‘skillful handling of the COVID 19 pandemic; and ‘timely decision’ they have complimented the state police for enforcing the lockdown measures effectively ensuring smooth movement of emergency workers and essential goods without which the pain suffered by people would have multi-plied many times over.
“We have even found that police teams have visited construction sites and bastis to map population most vulnerable to hunger and to ensure that no one is left out from the food-safety ring-fence, all these going beyond their normal call of duty. That extra effort and pro-activeness is one major reason why Bhubaneswar has not witnessed the heart-wrenching images that have emerged from other parts of the country of thousands of deprived souls revolting against the lockdown measures.”
The former Police Chiefs have made a particular mention of the empathy and sensitivity with which the situation is being managed by the police in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack. Besides, writing to the Chief Minister of Odisha, the association of retired Senior IPS Officers has also sent separate letters to DGP Abhay and twin city Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi appreciating their leadership and asking them to communicate their appreciation to the force. Former Police DGPs and other retired Senior IPS Officers appreciating the work of their junior colleagues is expected to boost the morale of the force and make people aware of the excellent work and sacrifices of the police force as frontline workers in the fight against COVID 19 pandemic.
