Ex-OCA Secy Ashirabad Behera’s bail plea rejected, sent to judicial custody

Bhubaneswar: The Special CJM (CBI) today rejected the bail pleas of former Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Ashirbad Behera, and the owner of the hotel, Kamalkant Das. Both were arrested this morning by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The accused couple was arrested by the CBI for their alleged involvement in the multi-crore rupees chit fund scam. The CBI has mentioned their names in its supplementary chargesheet.
Rejecting their bail plea, the special court sent Behara and Das to judicial custody till 1 October.
According to the CBI charge sheet, the OCA, through its Honorary Secretary (Ashirbad Behera) and with the Odisha-based companies, promoted AT Group in criminal conspiracy. “In return, they allegedly received Rs 1 crore from the AT group under the guise of sponsoring the Odisha Ranjith cricket team and the title sponsorship of the Odisha Premier League, 2011,” the CBI said.
Das, on the other hand, was allegedly involved with AT Group in misuse of real estate of Ponzi firm in Balasore and Bhubaneswar. “In the case of criminal conspiracy, the said accused allegedly misappropriated the sale proceeds of two immovable properties,” the CBI said.
Earlier, six chargesheets including four supplementary charge sheets have been filed by the CBI against 33 accused persons including eight companies of the AT group.
