Elderly man killed in mob attack; four detained

Angul: An elderly man was allegedly killed by a group of locals in front of village panchayat at Guharpasi village under Chendipada police limits in Angul district on Wednesday.
According to sources, an argument ensued between the victim and some locals of the village over catching of fish. Later, a meeting was called in the village panchayat to settle down the issue. But the situation worsened after a group of locals thrashed him mercilessly.
The elderly man was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
On being informed about the incident, police rushed to the spot and launched a probe into the matter. Reportedly, police have detained four persons in this connection.
Fire safety inspection carried out in coaching centres in two districts (16)
Bhadrak: Officials of Odisha Fire Services (OFS) Department today conducted fire safety inspection at several coaching centres across two districts in the state.
The inspection was conducted in Bhadrak and Bolangir districts to check the proper implementation of fire safety measures and fire prevention norms.
Under the direction of Director General (fire) Bijay Kumar Sharma, a five-member team carried inspection at several coaching centres in Bhadrak while a 12-member team inspected several educational institutions in Bolangir district.
Taking note of the fire mishap at coaching centre in Surat on May 24, the Odisha Home department had earlier asked the Director General of Fire Services to ensure inspection of fire safety measures at all coaching centres across the State.
