Cyclone Bulbul: IMD issues alert, Paradeep witnesses rain

Bhubaneshwar: Every minute with cyclone “Bulbul”, the India Meteorological Department issues forecasts for Odisha for the next five days.
As per reports, a yellow alert has been issued for Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Bhadrak districts for today. Similarly, Orange Alert has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts yesterday.
Meanwhile, Paradip has started experiencing rainfall as cyclone ‘Bulbul’ inches close to the shore.
Notably, at 2.30 am today Cyclone Bulbul laid centred about 420 km south-southeast of Paradip. It is likely to move north-northwestwards for next 12 hours & thereafter re-curve north & northeastwards before hitting coast between Sagar Islands (WB) & Khepupara (Bangladesh) on Nov 10.
Taking note of the severity of the storm and possibility of damage to property and lives, the Centre has asked the West Bengal and Odisha government to take all steps to deal with ‘Bulbul’ and ensure there are minimum casualty and damage.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), PK Jena said as per IMD predictions, coastal Odisha is likely to experience wind speed of 70-80 kmph gusting up to 90 kmph on Friday accompanied by heavy to very heavy downpour.
In view of the weather condition, all schools and anganwadi centres will remain closed on Friday and Saturday in Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts, an official said in the Odisha capital.
Odisha government has also decided to deploy NDRF and ODRAF teams in coastal districts of the State as a precautionary measure following the India Meteorological Department forecast.
Residents of low lying areas have been advised not to venture out of their home during heavy rain.The IMD has also issued warning on likely damages to property in the coastal districts.
