Chief General (retd) gets 3 years rigorous imprisonment in bribery case

New Delhi: A special CBI court on Thursday sentenced Major General (retd) SP Murgai to three years rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.
The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Rouse Avenue Courts, New Delhi also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict.
The CBI had registered a case under sections 8 and 9 of the PC Act, 1988 on 3 February 2006. It was alleged that Major General SP Murgai (retired) obtained illegal gratification of Rs 70,000 for himself as a representative of Tehelka.com. In the case of getting orders for the supply of defense equipment i.e. Hand Held Thermal Emersion (HHTI) to the Indian Army, a motive or reward, motivated by the use of personal effects with the officials of the Ministry of Defense (MoD).After a thorough investigation, a charge sheet was filed before the Nominated Court, New Delhi on 31.10.2007. The trial court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
