Ananya Bhattacharya of IndiaToday.in gave the film four out of five stars. In her review, she writes, “The victory for Chhapak lies in its crisp narrative, backed by some solid performances by each of the actors.
Leaving this talented pack is Deepika Padukone, the pretty-faced Padukone who let that face go for the film. Deepika bites Malati hard and makes you sit with her and shouts, screaming with her when she first sees her new face.
As she looks in the mirror and tries to put an earring through her earrings, and then realizes that the acid has taken her away too, you hear her heart break. That the director uses ‘Har gaddi badal rahi hai raag zindagi’ in the background, on the same radio, is a kick in your gorge. You realize what half the 30 rupees of an acid bottle does. “
