Budget 2019-20: Printing of documents starts with Halwa Ceremony

New Delhi: The Halwa ceremony to start the printing process for the 2019-20 general budget was held today in the North Block in the presence of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The general budget of the Union for the period 2019-20 will be presented on 5 July. In order to safeguard budgetary secrecy, there is a “block” of officials involved in the preparation of the budget, officials in the period prior to the presentation of the Union budget. These officials and staff members do not come into contact with their relatives until the budget is presented by the Union Minister of Finance to Parliament.
At the Halwa ceremony, the Minister of Finance of the Union was accompanied by the Minister of State of the Union for Finance and Enterprise, Anurag Thakur. Among others Secretary of Finance SC Garg, Secretary of Finance AB Pandey, DFS Secretary Rajiv Kumar and DIPAM secretary Atanu Chakraborty.
PC Mody, Chairman, CBDT; PK Das, Chairman, CBIC, members of CBDT & CBIC and Arvind Srivastava, joint secretary (household), as well as other officials and employees of the Ministry of Finance, who were involved in drawing up and printing the budget, were also present. Later, the Minister of Finance visited the press and learned about the printing process.
