“A center dedicated to fiscal consolidation,” says the finance minister

NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Wednesday that the government is committed to pursuing a path of fiscal consolidation without compromising public spending.
Answering the general debate on the 2019-20 budget in Lok Sabhi, the minister also said that the government set the target of a fiscal deficit to 3.3 percent of GDP for 2019-20.
“We will move the GST Council to reduce the GST rate to e-vehicles from 12 to 5 percent,” she said.
The minister said the government’s intention was to encourage the development of infrastructure and invest in Rs. 100 lakh crore in the next five years.
She said the government has increased the minimum support cost (MSP) for all 22 goods.
