25 pro-government militias killed in Taliban attack in Afghanistan

Kabul: Taliban attack in northern Afghanistan killed 25 pro-government militants on Saturday, officials say. The US began talks with militants in Qatar.
The attack took place in the Nahrin district of the northern Baghlan province before dawn when members of the militia tried to save a group of soldiers surrounded by Taliban militants.
According to Fawad Aman, a spokeswoman for the defense ministry, as they wanted to help soldiers, they were ambushed. All 25 members were killed in the attack, he said.
District Governor Fazaluddin Muradi confirmed that the tribute lasted nearly six hours. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.
Baghlan violence came when US and Taliban officials were to begin a new round of talks in Qatar to end the 18-year US presence in Afghanistan.
