24 college students detained in Chennai for travelling on roof of buses

Chennai: Police on Monday detained at least 24 college students in Ayanavaram and Royapettah in Chennai for travelling on the roof of the buses.
According to sources, a group of students of Pachayappa’s College, who came to the college on an MTC bus (route No 47 A) on Monday morning, created ruckus in the buses following which cops intercepted the vehicles at Aynavaram.
A video of the incident where students were seen climbing atop the bus and dancing on the bus is also doing rounds on the internet. Shocking visuals also show how a number of students fell down while the driver applied breaks to avoid an accident with the bike which was moving ahead of it on the road.
Reportedly, the college students in Chennai sat and climbed on top of moving buses and hang from window bars of a bus during Bus Day celebrations yesterday. In the name of celebrating ‘Bus Day’ in Chennai, government college students engaged in unruly behaviour.
Aynavaram police detained 3 students from Pachaiyappa’s College and Ambedkar Arts and science college. In Royapettah also, police secured a group of students of New College for creating a nuisance by travelling on the roof of the bus but let them off with a stern warning.
Police officers had also held talks with college authorities on the matter. Finally, their parents were summoned and students were let off with a stern warning, sources said.
